Forbidden Fruit Winery

Forbidden Fruits is a winery whose reputation preceed us. I have aways wanted to visit them. The approach to the winery off the highway is a little difficult to see. It is a dirt road right off a curve on Highway3. It can be easy missed. However the drive down that road is spectacular.

It all began with Kim Brind'Amour. and Steve Venebles in 1977 on raw, virgin bench land along the Similkameen River.  Ven ‘Amour Organic Farms has been farmed organically since day one.  The farm was certified organic in 1984, the year certification began in B.C and is family operated.  The orchards and vineyards are planted on a gentle sloping hillside bordering the Similkameen River and are completely isolated from commercial farming areas.

We were greeted by owner/winemaker Steve Venables. Who guided us through our tasting experience.

In 2014, Kim & Steve in collaboration with their son, Nathan Venables, an accomplished winemaker, purchased what has become known as Dead End Estate. The property is one of the original homesteads in the valley, sitting directly on the Similkameen River and butting right up to the U.S border. Dead End Estate now produces premium grape wine from its own 4 acres of certified organic vineyard under the Dead End Cellar Series label.

The Gunter Veltliner is an excellent wine. dancing with citrus flavours . The Happy Ending Cabert Franc Rose featurs white peach and chery notes.

Our favourite was Forbidden Fruit Pearsuasion Dry Pear.
