Sandhill is one of the many fine wineries owned by Andrew Peller Ltd. It history can be traced back to 1932, and Calona Vineyards which the distinction of being BC's original winery. Sandhill, started at the Kelowna based winery.

Each bottle of Sandhill wine is made from grapes that come from one of six unique BC vineyards - Sandhill Estate, King Family, Phantom Creek , Ospre Ridge, Hidden Terrace and Vanessa Vineyard. Each vineyard possesses a unique combination of soil composition, slope, sun exposure and drainage.

The man behind the success of Sandhill is winemaker Howard Soon. Howard Soon is one of the true pioneers in the BC wine industry. In 1997, he became head winemaker at Sandhill. Since then, his collaborative relationships with our growers and non-interventionist approach have consistently led to award-winning single vineyard wines. The first winemaker in BC to release a series of single vineyard wines, Howard’s contribution to our wine industry was recognized in 1998 when he received the Founder’s Award from the Okanagan Wine Festival.

Howard was also the first BC winemaker to receive a Gold Medal at the Chardonnay du Monde in France and produce a Super Tuscan blend — Sandhill Small Lots three. Howard became the first winemaker in history to receive all 3 top honours at the 2009 Wine Access Canadian Wine Awards when Sandhill won for Best Red Wine of the Year, Best White Wine of the Year and Winery of the Year.  

Howard retired in 2018.

The new winemaker is Sandy Leier is deeply rooted in the Okanagan wine region that she proudly calls home. Born in Vancouver and raised in Kelowna, Sandy has spent over 12 years working on the Andrew Peller Ltd. winemaking team and is honored to take over as winemaker for Sandhill Wines.
