Vignoble Sugar Hil Brome Lake

Vignoble Sugar Hill

Vignoble Sugar Hill is located east of Montreal near the town of Knowlton. The town sits at the north end of Brome Lake. Brome Lake is composed of seven villages. The elegant Victorian village of Knowlton is famous for its Loyalist roots and outstanding built heritage.

Sugar Hill is dedicated to the study of the unique terroir and climate of Lac-Brome. This northern border pushes the winemaking of cold climates to its limit and turns into an opportunity for courageous and daring viticulture. With 7 hectares of vines and an annual production limited to 2,000 cases of wine, Sugar Hill is a real micro-wine estate.

In 2006, the owners, Yvan Saint-Hilaire and Alicia Pelechacz, decided to bring their dream of owning a vineyard to life. Passionate about wine and collectors for several years, the couple were convinced that Quebec wines deserved more prestige and notoriety. Thus was born the idea of the Sugar Hill Vineyard. In 2018, the estate began its transition to organic certification.

Sugar Hill is dedicated to the study of Lac Brome's unique terroir and climate. This Northern frontier does push cold climate winemaking to its limit it creates an opportunity for brave and daring viticulture to flourish.
That's what we're all about.

Vignoble Sugar Hill Quebec

From the beginning, Sugar Hill's mission was to redefine the quality and image of Quebec wines by offering quality products. It is in this spirit that Alicia and Yvan have chosen to age their wines for several years in order to study them, improve them and make the most of them. For this reason, the wines were available to the public in 2019, 10 years after the first harvest took place. The wines of the Sugar Hill vineyard are therefore in the image of the owners: authentic and imbued with passion. Sugar Hill believes that patience is not only a virtue, but a necessity when it comes to making quality wines.

Although the first albeit small harvest was in 2009, Sugar Hill only launched its wines to the public in 2019. It's safe to say perfectionism runs deep at the winery. Ten years of studying and analyzing the estate's soils as well as the grape varietals best suited for each growing site and endless trials in its cellar. Relentless trials and errors to bring to market what we believe are some of Quebec's finest wines. Sugar Hill believes that patience is not only a virtue but a way of life when it comes to crafting quality wines. Our wines are only released when we feel they are at their peak.

Organic certification was obtained in 2021.

Varietals planted on the estate include Chardonnay, Frontenac Blanc, Seyval, St-Pépin and Vidal for whites. When it comes to reds, the estate has Marquette, Frontenac Noir, Cabernet Franc, Marechal-Foch, Petite-Perle, Pinot Noir and Radisson.

La Grande Cuvée Pelechacz 2013 (an extra-brut sparkling white wine) won a gold medal at the Nations Cup in Quebec City in August 2021.

"It's time to put the myth that Quebec isn't capable of producing quality wines to rest. In fact, we'd like to go a step further and say that Quebec is capable of crafting some truly exceptional crus. For far too long we've been fed the message that Quebec's climate is too cold and too rainy to craft good wines. The reality of the matter is that years of study and proper vineyard management have allowed us to better understand the needs of growing vines this far North. Courageous and daring viticulture is what defines us. "
