"Del-Gatto Estates, Bella Vigne is family owned and operated winery, specializing in hybrid grape varieties. Located in Picton Ontario Prince Edward County. The winery was established in 2002 by Pat and Heidi Del-Gatto in 2002.

Living in Oshawa working the daily 9-5 existance Pat dreamed of a better and more exciting life.With the uncanny ability to grow just about anything from seed, Pat’s love of plants and the outdoors was to be one of the main factors in this life changing moving to Prince Edward County. But not before careful research.

Pat studied the climate, temperatures and geographical locations of British Columbia, Pelee Island and the Niagara regions. Considering the latitude and longitude of Prince Edward County, temperatures and agricultural history, he knew that this would be a viable location to grow grapes. Over many years, he was met with disagreement from family and friends regarding the viability of a vineyard and winery in Prince Edward County.

Pasquale (Pat) Del-Gatto is a fourth generation winemaker, hailing from Santa Croce, a small town of about 4000 in southern Italy, approximately 75km north of Napoli. Pat's great-grandfather was the town's winemaker

Lured by the beauty of the County, the facts collected and the belief in our abilities, they purchased 74 acre parcel in Cape Vesey in 2001.In 2003 Pats parents joined them. In fact it was Pats father who laid out the he grid of the vineyard, the vines have been hand planted by family members. The family currently maintains almost 8 acres of a variety of vinifera and hybrid grapes: Geisenheim (GM322), St. Croix, Leon Millot, Marquette, Petit Pearl, Baco Noir, Frontenac Noir, Frontenac Gris, L'acadie, and Pinotage ( Ontario's first commercial planting).

We were lucky to attend this lovely Winery on a Monday in early October, there was only one other couple there so we had lots of time to taste and chat with the owner. The wine is fantastic and we left with a few bottles. We love supporting local small business and this one is a must see!
