Four Shadows Vineyard
Located on the Naramata Bench in British Columbia's Okanagan Valley. The winery was founded by Wilbert and Joka Borren. They originally farmed in Alberta for nearly two decades before transitioning to viticulture in the Okanagan Valley. The name Four Shadows was inspired by a photo of their four sons, who have all contributed to the winery’s development—from vineyard work to renovating the tasting room .
Joka and Wilbert BorrenThe Borrens have always had adventurous spirits. Wilbert and Joka both grew up in Holland. They bought a small pig farm in Lacombe AB and started a family. After successfully growing and expanding the farm, it was time to sell and find their next adventure. A previous vacation to the beautiful Okanagan area had them intrigued. With a strong desire to continue farming, in 2011 they purchased a 17 acres vineyard property and moved their young family to Penticton BC.
The vineyard was purchased in 2011, and the winery began producing its own wines in 2017, with the tasting room opening in 2019. Their philosophy centers on creating a comfortable and welcoming tasting room, where guests feel at ease regardless of their wine knowledge. After successfully growing grapes in their Naramata Bench vineyard for other wine producers for 7 years, they felt it was time for another adventure. Retaining a portion of their 2017 harvest, Wilbert and Joka made their first vintage of pinot noir and merlot with assistance from Tightrope’s Lindsay O’Rourke. Working with consulting winemaker Pascal Madevon, the 2018 harvest added chardonnay, Riesling and a rosé to round out their portfolio.
Joka and Wilbert are also the winemakers. They believe that “wine is made in the vineyard,” emphasizing meticulous care of each vine to ensure the best possible fruit.
The tasting room featuring estate-grown varietals like Riesling, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir, and Rosé.
They host events such as Mothers Day and Fathers Day
