Alison Moyes

If you are going to open a new winery make sure you have a good winemaker to support your adventure. Sartor family did just that selecting Alison Moyes as their winemaker and General Manager. Alison brings 14 years of premium Winemaking experience to Solvero, with expertise in crafting Pinot Noir and Chardonnay specifically.

Alison began her career in the food and beverage industry as a certified sommelier for some of Halifax' finest restaurants, where she began to consider a change to winemaking. after completing her Sommelier certification with the Canadian Association of Professional Sommelier’s in 2004, she ran the wine program at Seven +++++++++\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\8888888888888888888888888888888888ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan Halifax, elevating the list to achieve Wine Spectator’s Best Award of Excellence. Drawn to the elements of Art, Science and Nature, she now wanted to expand her wine knowledge and connection further, leading to the next stage of education. Alison enrolled in the Oenology and Viticulture program at Brock University, graduating with Honours in 2009 having completed a thesis in Sensory Science.

After completing two degrees in microbiology and oenology & viticulture from Dalhousie and Brock Universities, respectively, the Okanagan beckoned. Alison worked two seasons at Osoyoos Larose before joining the team at Stoneboat in 2010, becoming co-winemaker in 2011, and winemaker-in-chief in 2013.

She is quoted as saying “But, statistically women tend to have better sensory perception than men and can perceive aromas and flavours more intensely. Plus, women tend to have more attention to detail.”

Along with her poise, fantastic palate and prowess in the lab, Alison possesses a keen aptitude in translating the unique characters of the winery's vineyards and fruit into honest, expressive wines.

Solvero is located in the beautiful Garnet Valley in the Summerland Valleys Sub GI, among the Bottleneck Drive tourist route, Summerland’s is newest winery. At 600 meters in elevation, Solvero’s Garnet Valley estate vineyard is one of the highest in British Columbia, and wildlife and bordering forests are a vital part of the landscape.
