Jake and Margaret Ootes named their winery after the community where they live. They first planted vines in 2002 and now have two hectares (five acres) of grapes on their 80-hectare (160-acre) farm. Celista is a small community located along the north shore of Shuswap Lake. On the south side of the lake one finds the cities of Salmon Arms and Sicamous.

Jake nor his wife Marg stared the winery without any farming experience Margaret was a social worker and an art gallery owner Jake was a reporter, publisher and politician. It was actually their son who said the land would be perfect for a vineyard. It has a southern slope with a cay subsoil.

They grow Maréchal Foch, Ortega, Madeleine Sylvaner, Madeleine Angevine, Gewürztraminer and a small quantity of St. Laurent. Hans Nevrkla award winning winemaker and founder of Larch Hills Winery was hired as consultant and winemaker

We stop by this winery every year when we are in the area. The owners and staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. The wine selection is great and the wine is simply outstanding! This is absolutely one of my favourite things to do while I'm at Shuswap lake and their view of the lake is divine."
