Located in Richmond just north of the Masset Tunnel on Steveson Highway is the Richmond Contry farms one of the areas most popular farm markets. Everyone knows it. What everyone may not know is they have opend a winery.
The winery was opened in Aug 2016 by owner Lucas Hogler. He is also the winemaker. with assistance from consultant Jason Parkes. The winery features Yee Haw Wines, produced from grapes grown on their Richmond farm farm.
Barbara and I were on our way to IKEA when we passed the farmer's market and decided it was long passed time we paid the winery a visit. We are gald we. The winery made a very good lasting impression. We had found a hidden gem.
We were warmly greeted by Eric Urquhart who guided us through a very enjoyable tasting experience. Eric knows is wines and is very knowledgeable about the early development of the winery.
The tasting room is located in what was once the families home. A new outdoors patio is been complete including a wood burning pizza oven.
The winery offers a wide range of wines. I think we tasted 18 wines including 2015 and 2016 vintages. From the very first pour I was impressed by the wines The estate Pinot Gris 216 started with an exception aroma followed by the true fruit flavours of the grape. So good.
The Yee Haw Black Forty 2016 was also very good with ist touch of Muscat and Schoenburger Barbara liked their Sippin Pretty 2015 with its apple flavours. In fact all the whites re quite good. The 2016 Viognier was also impressive.
We moved on to the reds. The main source for the grapes been the Similkameen Valley. Barbra liked their 2016 Cabernet Franc and the Pinot Noir.
We will explore these wines and report on Robert's Selections, but drop by for yourself and experience this great Richmond Winery.
