Erie Shore Vineyards

Owned, operated and established by Harvey & Alma Hollingshead. Established in 1994, the first vines were planted in 1997 and the winery open to the public in 2002.

Their vineyard located at the 42nd N parallel on the banks of Lake Erie, in a cool climate viticultural area. 

Their Vidal icewine is quite popular. Also the Fire & Ice Cabernet a Fortified Cabernet Franc Ice dessert wine –

Small, family owned & operated winery in Milford Prince Edward County, consistently producing award-winning wines since 2010

2016 Lieutenant Governor's Award for Excellence in Ontario Wine for 2013 Chardonnay "the Blessed"

Four Wheels Farms Estate Winery

A boutique winery built in the lower level of a 125 year old barn over looking the vineyard.

Located midway between Creemore and Collingwood.

Chuck Magwood is the hands on Vigneron.


 

Georgian Hills Vineyards

Located near Blue Mountains with vineyards in the Beaver Valley just south of Georgian Bay

The winery is owned by John Ardiel, Murray Puddicombe and Robert Ketchin. Their vision is to establish a grape growing region in the Georgia Bay area.

 the two sites now produce over 30 tons of grapes, made up of European Vinifera varieties – Riesling, Chardonnay, Gamay Noir, Pinot Noir, and French American Hybrids such as Seyval Blanc, Vidal Blanc, Maréchal Foch and Baco Noir.


 

Golden Leaf Estate Winery

The winery located near Langton, Norfolk County was founded in 2011 by the Shelswell family.

Andrew Shelswell is he winemaker, who worked in Nova Scotia and Ontario to gain experience. He graduated from Brock University CCOVI program

The winery has a full service restaurant.


Good Earth Vineyards and Winery

The Good Earth Vineyard and Winery is an expansion of the well-established and popular cooking school in Beamsville, of the same name. It all began in 1998 when Nicolette Novak opened her family farm that she had lived in as a child to hold a cooking school which embraced the concept of “slow food" The winery opened in 2010

The wines are made with the goal to be food friendly wines – better with food than just enjoyed alone. The winery is built to complement to their food activities and not the other way around which tends to be the usual evolution in the wine industry. Their wines include Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc which are hand pruned and thinned judiciously to produce very low yields of quality grapes.

 



 

Gravel Hill Vineyards

Chris Karja decided in 2016 he needed to start a winery. He sold the family's home and moved Hillier,building a new home Closson Road in Prince Edward County

The winery has 6 acres of vinefra and hybrid grapes planted on rocky Hillier Clay Loam soil.  

They planted cold hardy grape varieties such as Frontenac Noir, Baco Noir, Gamay Noir, Cabernet Franc and Pinot Noir for our red varietals  and Vidal Blanc, Frontenac Blanc and Gewürztraminer for the white varietals. 


 

 

Half Moon Bay Vineyards & Winery

A small winery located where Half Moon Bay & South Bay meet Prince Edward Bay in the North east corner of Lake Ontario.

Brain Mitchell is the owner and winemaker.



 

Harbour Estates Winery

HEW is located on one of the most unique properties in the Niagara Peninsula. Having 1800 feet of frontage on Jordan Harbour, HEW is the most prominent point in Jordan Harbour as seen from the Queen Elizabeth Highway.

As HEW is located directly on Jordan Harbor it is only natural that the winery is built with the theme of water and the environment in mind.


Harwood Estate Vineyards

Located in Hillier, PEC known as the Solar Winery.

Three vineyards totalling 67 acres surround the winery.

The winery is wheelchair, bicycle and RV friendly and offers an electric vehicle charging station.

 

 


 

Hubbs Creek

Hubbs Creek Vineyard is a family run vineyard owned by John Battista Calvieri and Joseph Calvieri. They are located on a 500 million-year-old geological formation known as the Lindsay formation from the middle Ordovician period.

The region is becoming famous for it’s lime rich soils, which are ideal for growing grape varieties such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.



Jabulani Vineyard & Winery

Jabulani Vineyard & Winery

 

A small family winery off the beaten path. Located near Canada's capital city Ottawa, Janet and Tom Moul began their adventure in 2005 when they purchased the land by Jock River

They produce a number of different wines. A number of them using Frontenac. They have a strawberry wine called Turkey Tips. They also produce an Apple cider.


Kawartha Country Wines

Located in Buckhorn Kawartha county John Rufa, owner and vintner, comes from a long tradition of family winemaking. Years of practical experience and the study of enology have prepared John well to be a winemaker.

They opened in 2004 and today, produce 40,000 litres a year, and have 50 different delicious wines and ciders, ranging from dry and semi-dry to sweet dessert and ice wines.

Surrounded by 22 scenic acres, the land is planted to apples, pears, several varieties of raspberries, rhubarb and both red and white wine grapes and stately maple trees.


Kin Vineyards

Off the beaten path in the Ottawa Valley two vineyards nestled along the Carp Ridge, adjoined by the Carp River, and resting upon the grey limestone of the Ottawa Formation.

Christoper Van Barr is the owner. The winery opened in July 2017.

 


King's Court Wine

 

King's Court Estate   

Is the home of winemaking pioneer Josef Zimmerman. After working many years in the industry Josel and his wife started their own winery in 1990.


 

Legends Estates Winery

Established in 1946 as a small house winery by John Lizak, a boutique winery was re-born a half century later by Ted and Diane Lizak with son, Paul.

Legends has over 200 acres of fruit and grapes. They re located on the waterfront in Beamsville.


 

Lighthall Vineyards

is a small, proud, low volume and high quality winery located in enchanting Prince Edward County.

They have been in operation since 2009. The primary focus is on our estate-grown Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with sparkling wine, late harvest and icewine products. Glenn Symons is the owner

They also make cheese

 

This is part two in a series of Wineries We Would Like to Know Better. The series will take us through Ontario then later into British Columbia. Those living in Ontario will know these wineries better than I a resident of British Columbia.
