Colio Estate Winery

Canada's Grand Estates

Today the winery has over the 200 acres of prime vineyards at Colchester, Ontario and the newly acquired 21 acres in the Niagara-on-the-Lake.   Colio boasts over 2.4 million litres of cooperage including a climate-controlled barrel aging room and a technologically advanced bottling line that produces in excess of 240,000 cases per year. There is also a elegant Hospitality Centre which features all of their wines, wine gifts and souvenirs.

In Ontario wineries are allowed to open their own retail outlets. Colio has 14 Wine Region Retail Boutiques strategically located across the province. Colio Estate Wines has won over 400 medals in competitions around the globe.

Early in 2000  Colio added two new members to Carlo's winemaking team Kevin Donohue and Tim Reilly. Kevin Donohue has a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology and was also a respected graduate of Brock's Cool Climate Oenological and Viticultural Institute. Tim Reilly began his winemaking career at Colio Estate Wines apprenticing under the guiding hand of Carlo Negri. Tim was a highly-touted graduate of Niagara College teaching wine making under the venerable Jim Warren

Their brands include CEV Signature Series-Limited Edition Wines, Colio Estate Vineyards (CEV)-Ultra Premium, Colio Estate - VQA Varietals and Premium, Colio-Varietals & Blends and Girls Night Out.  They produce icewines, sparkling wines and St. Tropez Non-Alcoholic Cocktail

Their latest success story is Girls Night Out

Colio wines media release started with:

A woman walks into her local store to pick up a bottle of wine for a night out with her friends. Scanning the shelves her eyes gloss over the muted and stately bottles before her. Then something catches her eye, a bright white label and a matching capsule with cute little dresses on it. It speaks to her. She picks up the bottle and reads “ Girls Night Out” Perfect!

Their Colchester Vineyards are located at a latitude which is on a plane with Northern California and the Tuscany region in Italy. The vine-friendly soils, the prevailing southwest winds and southern exposure to the lake were key ingredients in deciding to build on the Lake Erie North Shore.

Each year in February Colio Winery hosts their Festival of Ice
