Andy as most people call him was born in Poland. He came to canada in 1998 and started his career by picking grapes. He climbed the ladder rung by rung. In a relatively short time frame, he was exposed to and absorbed the viticulture and winemaking practices of several award-winner winemakers, finally earning the opportunity to ply his trade at highly respected wineries such as Vineland Estates, Legends, DeSousa, Fielding, Foreign Affair, Megalomaniac and Organized Crime. He was named winemaker of the year in 2012, the Ontario Wine Awards.
Today Andy is the winemaker for both Burning Kiln Winery and Cornerstone Estate Winery. Cornerstone Estate Winerynestled in the heart of the glorious beauty of the Niagara Peninsula, in Beamsville Ontario. Founded in 2002, this family owned and operated winery creates premium quality wines from their own meticulously handpicked and hand sorted grapes. At present, Cornerstone Estate is concentrating their production efforts on limited productions, which results in only the finest quality VQA certified wines. Andrzej Lipinski joined Cornerstone Estate Winery in 2008, as a part-time consultant, and in 2012, he took over the task of winemaking. Andrzej's commitment to perfection led him to fine-tune and develop his palate for a variety of wines. In 1996, he became assistant winemaker and just two years later, Andrzej was making his own wines. His expertly produced Chardonnay, created in 1998, was chosen to be a reserve and in 1999, it won a gold medal when it was submitted to Vinitaly. Andrzej has quickly gained an exceptional reputation for his now famous wines made from a delicious variety of Cornerstone Estate's fine ripe grapes. As one of the most award winning winemakers in Canada,
Andrzej has been with Burning Kiln Winery since it opened in 2011. Situated on a former tobacco tract, the picturesque winery has been built to preserve the historic charm of its original wooden structure while allowing visitors to view much of the operation from behind giant, contemporary glass walls. Inside, a wonderfully functional, modern working winery shares its secrets of the complete winemaking process while maintaining the warmth of the original wood structure and the drama of the trusses of the original agri-building
From the moment Burning Kiln opened their doors and presented their first vintage of wines under his watch, using repurposed bulk tobacco kilns to perfect this ancient art begun in Italy hundreds of years ago, his abilities were turning heads. They were turning the heads of critics of all credentials, professional, amateur and armchair. Aawards were won for this first vintage for both reds and whites. The second vintage, Strip Room 2011 was selected by the Ontario Legislature as their official wine, a feat unheard of in the industry to date.
He produces his own wine under Big Head label. He has been focusing on the Appassimento process of Northern Italy
His philosophy is all about respect for the fruit. Respect for the way it is hand picked at harvest, hand-sorted twice over and ultimately, meticulously coaxed to liquid form.
