King's Court Estate Winery
2083 Seventh Street
St. Catharines
Located in St Catharines, Ontario Kings Court was founded in 1990 by Josef and his wife Siglinde Zimmermann. The Zimmermann's can trace their wine making back to 1723 in Germany. Kaiser Wlihem a German king is said to have tasted the Zimmerman wine and was impressed. The family's winery became known as Kings Vineyard. The story has it that Kaiser Wilhelm, a German King, was served wine by Joseph Zimmerman, great-great-great-grandfather.
In 1990 the youngest descendant of the Zimmermann's, Josef and his wife Siglinde, started a winery with an 11 acre farm below the Niagara Escarpment in Ontario, Canada. Since then, we have grown to a family operation known as King's Court Estate Winery. We now cultivate 30 hectares (60 acres) of grapes to produce wine from such noble varieties as Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Gewürztraminer, and Pinot Noir.
Their 2015 Pinot Grigio is indeed worthy to be served to a king. It was a hot summer day in the low 90's when I opened a perfectly chilled bottle. The aroma of fresh fruit was most inviting. Melon and honeydew dominating. very refreshing on the palate clean and crisp. Acidly perfect. The after taste said "more please"
