The sun came out the day was warm. It was our first wine event of the year. This is when I love to sit back relax and sip white wines with friends on the patio. On this occasion we were over joyed to see arriving Blackwood Lanes Vineyard and Winery owner and winemaker Carlos Lee.
Our afternoon began with a tasting of the Honey Cider from Langley Township Fraser Valley Cider. It went down well on a warm day. Next we served a wine from Spain followed by Blackwood Lane's Vicuña Roja. The Spanish wine was quickly abandoned in favour of this beautiful red blend from Blackwood Lane.
I had two bottles of the wine and Carlo's brought two bottles all of which were emptied before coffee (tea for some) and cake was served. Even I switched from my usual white wine to enjoy Carlo's fine red blend.
Vicuña Roja is a blend of a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from Osoyoos vineyards. Super soft tannins and an abundance of flavours and aromas of wild berries, red cherries, Red Delicious apples and lush plums. The mid palate bursts with fruit and the finish is strong and long. All of our guests agreed this was one superior wine.
Blackwood lane is located in Aldergrove at 25180, 8th Ave, open Wednesday through to Sunday. They have an amazing cellar. The most notable being the Reference. The Reference a wine beyond compare.
We also recommend the Vicuña Roja Wine Jelly available in the wine shop.
