It is aways a pleasure to vist Backyard vineyards, especially on one of those wet and cold rainy days we seen all to frequently in the lower mainland of British Columbia. The winery is only 20 minutes away from our home in Langley. We were warming greeted with a cherrful welcome as we eneterd the winery.
Since it's early day the winery has been making continous improvements to its tasting room. A new shelving unit ful of exciting wines, now makes a partial seperation between the tasting bar and the tables. The result a very warm and cozy environment.
It was our lucky day as winemake James Cambridge was able to join us and guide us through our wine tasting experience.
We started with the Sparking Rosé We enjoyed this wine especially Barbara its smooth with a crispness. Flavours of Watermelon and crap apple. This was followed by a very good 2017 Chardonnay . Abundant fruit flavours and a good finish. A very nice smooth wine.
The Gossip Blanc 2017 began with a really nice aroma and wonderful flavours of fruit. A 90 plus wine for sure!
Next came the 2017 Rosé with its raspberry and blueberry flavours. We both thought this was one of BC's better Rosé .
The 2016 Riesling was the one that tickled your taste buds with flavours of Granny Smith apple and honeysuckle.
Barbara enjoyed their "Fresh Satine Red" a Merlot / Cabernet Franc blend. This is the wine Barbara wanted to take home. It was craft for Diamond Estate Wine, Ontario.
It was a most enjoyable experience. We plan to return soon and try one of their Cheese plates.
The winery is open seven days a week year round. Check out the gazebo and their Backyard Bell.
