Ripples Estate winery is a family owned and operated winery located in the Fraser Valley.
The winery sits beneath the shadows of the Cheam Mountain Range is the agriculture belt between Abbotsford BC and Chilliwack .
Founded in 2017 the winery is owned and operated by Paul and Caroline Mostertman, along with their daughter Kelsey.
The Fraser Valley is known for its Blueberry Crops and that is where the Mostertman started achieving success with their fruit wines before expanding to grape wines and now Distilled Spirits.
Owner Caroline came by to say hello and explain that producing distilled Spirits was just a natural step in the wineries progress.
Distilled spirit, also called distilled liquor, alcoholic beverage (such as brandy, whisky, rum, or arrack) that is obtained by distillation from wine or other fermented fruit or plant juice or from a starchy material (such as various grains) that has first been brewed. The alcoholic content of distilled liquor is higher than that of beer or wine.
Our journey today began from our home in Wine Rock. Barbara and I were joined by our friends Ken and Jane. We chose to drive the back Roads through south Surrey, Langley Township and finally to the Abbotsford Valley farm land. A beautiful drive.
We were warmly greeted by Bonnie and Faith in new new tasting room. Bonnie convinced to do a Distilled Spirits tasting. The collection here is quite impressive. Barbara, Ken and Jane decided to settle in the court yard enjoying a gin and tonic beverage as I continued on the taste the wines.
We started with the Radiance a Sparking Blueberry Wine. A most enjoyable wine that fits well in summer days on the patio. The wine won Gold at the All Canadian Championship.
The In·met·per·ance is another high quality blueberry wine with excellent flavour.
The Cheam is a nice blend Gewürztraminer, Ehrenfelser, Chardonnay and Muscat sourced from the Okanagan and cold fermented. This had a lovely citrus flavours with a touch of sweetness.
My favourite was the Pinot Gris named Baby Munday. Flavours of ripe pears, green apple and sweet melon make this a prime wine. I except a glass of Baby Munday to enjoy with our picnic lunch.
The winery is a perfect place for a picnic and a great choice for a wedding
The tasting experience was not over we still had their amazing desert wines to enjoy. This time Faith was doing the pouring. The An·the·ia among BC's best Blueberry fortified wines. The fortified port style wine Am- ri- Ta is also very good.
Guests were now arriving for a wedding. It was time for us to say goodbye and return to the city. We thank Ripples for a very relaxing and delightful experience.
Ripples made our list of best wineries to visit in 2019, they will make the 2020 list too.
